I’d like to be able to say that there are more people alive today who believe that Sathya Sai Baba was born of a virgin, than there were people alive when Jesus is supposed to have a been born.
I’m not sure whether or not I’d be right.
The number of followers of Sai Baba is harder to determine (and the “number of followers” could be greater or less than the number of people who think he was born of a virgin). This site puts the number of followers between 10 and 20 million. This page, however, says that Sai Baba followers like to number themselves between 60 and 600 million strong, which would justify my claim.
Maybe I’d be safer saying that the number of followers of virgin-born Sai Baba is greater than the number of people in the Roman Empire in the first century. It doesn’t have the same ring to it, though . . .
